Accident in NUS: Tower Crane Collapse

with 3 comments

Probably everyone has heard about it from here, here, and here. It is very sad.

I know some professional engineers. They tell me its really hard for cranes to collapse because the safety factors are multiplied many times.

And especially when this crane was working right next to a carpark and adjacent highly populated buildings, safety factors should have been even more jacked up.

Condolences to the family and hope the injured recover…

  1. Is there any news on the cause of the failure? Was the crane tested and certified by a third party /competent person?

  2. http://nus.sg/oed/forms/PDFS/sms/SafetySpecs04.pdf

For preliminary starters, you can search for the tower crane section.
But I am sure a large investigation would be going way by police, civil defense etc.

Check out Straits Times. Up to now, the incident doesn’t seem to be ultra transparent in my opinion. I have yet to receive any emails on the subject within my school intranet and the NUS main site doesnt list it in their “top news” section, which is, in my opinion, stupid.

But I am sure, there will be proper investigations and the guilty put to trial, this is Singapore after all..
